On March 5, 2026, at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), Quito campus, Gustavo Camacho, President of the Financial and Monetary Policy and Regulation Board (JPRFM), participated as a speaker at the +Inclusion 2026 Congress, organized by the Ecuadorian Financial Cluster.
During his presentation entitled “Challenges and Opportunities for Financial Inclusion,” the head of the JPRFM highlighted the actions undertaken by the institution in regulatory matters and in the development of programs aimed at reducing financial gaps. Among these, he emphasized:
- Financial consumer protection regulations, related to the measurement of indicators and the promotion of information transparency.
- Common standards for financial education programs and/or initiatives, for the standardization of inclusion methodologies and strategies regulated by the JPRFM.
- Promotion of the Economía Tricolor portal on the Central Bank of Ecuador’s website, which addresses financial concepts in an accessible way for the public.
- On-site visits with the “Central Bank Close to You” Program and training on the identification of counterfeit bills and coins.
“Financial inclusion is not limited to access to financial products and services but rather implies their effective and sustained use to improve people’s well-being in the long term,” Camacho stated during his presentation.
In recent years, Ecuador has shown significant progress in financial inclusion. Account ownership in the sector rose from 64% to 65% between 2021 and 2025, according to data from Global Findex 2025.
The 2026 Congress+Inclusion is a collaborative platform that connects regulations, data, and regional perspectives to strengthen the exchange of experiences and position financial inclusion as a driver of national competitiveness.
Through these technical dialogue forums, the JPRFM and the BCE reaffirm their commitment to promoting an agenda focused on monetary and financial education, with the aim of closing gaps, expanding opportunities, and promoting citizen inclusion in the financial system.
