The Financial and Monetary Policy and Regulation Board (JPRFM) and the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE) officially unveiled the commemorative coin “FIFA World Cup 2026 – Ecuador’s Fifth Participation,” a special edition celebrating the Ecuadorian national team’s qualification for its fifth World Cup.
This issue is part of the “Official International FIFA World Cup Commemorative Coin Program,” which the BCE has maintained since Ecuador’s second World Cup appearance. Through the issuance of these collector’s items, produced under international quality standards, the promotion of Ecuador’s numismatic heritage is strengthened, and the country is showcased on the world stage in cultural and sporting events.
During the presentation ceremony, authorities emphasized that this coin represents not only a sporting event, but also a symbol of identity, hope, collective memory, and national pride.
“These are small pieces with enormous significance. Through them, future generations can remember who we were, what we celebrated, and what values we chose to preserve. We want this coin to reach the hands of citizens, collectors, young people, and families as a permanent reminder that dreams can indeed become reality. And that true triumph is not about arriving alone, but about arriving as a team,” highlighted Gustavo Camacho Dávila, president of the JPRFM.
The design incorporates emblematic elements of the country. The reverse features the Cotopaxi volcano and the Andean condor, accompanied by the colors of the Ecuadorian flag and visual references to the World Cup, as symbols of unity and national identity.
The obverse features the national coat of arms of Ecuador alongside the silhouette of a soccer ball and the coin’s face value.
